about me.

SOME FACTS ABOUT ME:

I'm a professional performer... but i still know what it's like to struggle with your voice.

Having toured the UK's leading theatres and performed internationally, including travelling the world as a vocalist on the Queen Mary 2, I know the power and vital importance of a voice that works skillfully, expressively and reliably. I'll be honest though, singing hasn't always been easy for me.

Like many of my students, I've battled with an array of vocal 'gremlins' - my voice has cracked under pressure, performed underwhelmingly and (very publicly!) let me down. I know how scary it is to stand on a stage, ready to perform, not knowing whether your voice is going to turn up. I’ve felt the disappointment of attempting a note or phrase fifty times without being any closer to the sound you want. And I get how frustrating it is to have a compelling story to tell, vision to share, or song to sing, without the voice to do it justice.

Thankfully, what I also now know (after years of study, practice, expert coaching and observation) is that there are real, practical solutions out there for so many of these vocal issues. There are strategies and exercises, based on the anatomy and physiology of the voice, that truly get results. They've been transformational for my voice and the voices of my students... and they could be for you too.

I'm a bit of a nerd.

Ok, I'm a LOT of a nerd. I have a first-class BA hons degree in Music & Drama from The University of Manchester and Master of Performance in Musical Theatre from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. I'm eternally curious about the inner-workings of the voice and am in the final stages of training to become an Estill Master Trainer of Estill Voice. Mentored by Anne-Marie Speed of The Voice Explained, I'll be one of only a few qualified practitioners based in the North West.

I’m a Musical Theatre and Contemporary Commercial Music specialist.

Which is a fancy way of saying 'I’m really into Musicals and Rock & Pop'. I help singers with other styles but this is me at my very best.

I work with students in the comfort of their own homes, and my own.

Online lessons mean I can coach clients wherever they are in the world. We connect using Zoom and Whatsapp, and I've enhanced my approach to ensure virtual coaching is just as powerful and effective as in-person sessions. It's a convenient and user-friendly way to learn, and we both get to wear our slippers!

During normal circumstances, I also deliver in-person coaching at my place in Stockport, Greater Manchester (sessions are currently suspended due to Covid-19). Additionally I work with students in educational establishments throughout the North West, currently as an Associate Voice Tutor for the Musical Theatre course at Edge Hill University and with Performing Arts & Music students at The Manchester College.

My students are a wonderfully diverse bunch.

They range from complete beginners to seasoned pros, singer-songwriters to business executives, and seven-year-olds to seventy(plus)-year-olds. Their goals and dreams are completely unique, but they overwhelmingly have one thing in common: a desire for greater control and mastery of their voice. It's my absolute joy and privilege to help them with this.

it's my mission

to help students liberate themselves from their 'vocal gremlins' - to build capable, powerful and engaging voices they can truly rely on, so they feel confident and excited to share them with the world.
